Devon has many family-fun activities planned throughout
the school year to benefit our school community. These are a chance to connect
with new friends and old! Our social functions are not fund-raisers and
any fees are budgeted to only cover their costs.
Please refer to the school calendar for specific date and time of the following
social events sponsored by the PTO.
Ice Cream Social
This nighttime event is a great way for families and children to re-connect
or make new friends following a long summer. As this event takes place during
the first two weeks of the school year, telephone calls and e-mails begin
during the summer. Volunteers plan and staff the event.
Fall Festival
This is a well attended and very well planned evening event. The Chairperson
of the event organizes games, crafts, prizes, food, beverages and clean-up.
Lots of volunteers make up mini-committees that take charge of organizing
food or the spooky room for instance. The children love this event and usually
come in costume! There are lots of games and prizes, a DJ playing fun dance
music, a spooky room, pizza, drinks and crafts.
Pizza Bingo Night
Students enjoy food and beverages and play bingo during this fun event.
There are loads of prizes and the kids really enjoy picking out that special
item. There is also a PTO bake sale during this event. Volunteers are needed
to help with planning and event night staffing.
4th Grade Party
This is a special end-of-the-year event for our fourth graders who are preparing
for their big day as middle schoolers! Volunteers are needed to help organize,
chaperone and drive to the event.
4th Grade Yearbook
The Chairperson of this project begins working with other 4th grade parents
in the beginning of the school year to assemble a yearbook packet that is
distributed to the children at the end of the school year. Volunteers are
needed to assist the children and assemble the booklets.
Teacher Appreciation Luncheon
This fun event demonstrates our appreciation for the teachers. The chairperson
coordinates either a breakfast or a lunch brought to school on the designated
day. The chair coordinates food, beverage and volunteer servers to bring
and set-up the food so our fabulous teachers don’t have to lift a finger!
Additionally, the PTO supplies hospitality, food & refreshments for student
and teacher events throughout the school year.
Cultural Arts:Arts Express Week:
Arts Express Week is held each spring, typically in May. During the week, an artist in residence comes in to the school to work with students to develop a program to present to the entire student body. The fourth grade class has been the focus of a performance at the end of each Arts Express Week with the lower grades contributing actively to the event. Furthermore, all students will have the opportunity to participate in various workshops and activities which relate to the chosen theme of the week. Past themes have included dance, music, theatre, graphic arts, and circus. This annual event usually attracts a large team of volunteers and there are opportunities for everyone who would like to be involved. Co-Chairs and their teams will coordinate the 4th grade program, organize student workshops and activities for the week, and work together to choose and contract with an artist for the following year.
Chair of Visiting Author Day
A
district-wide art education program that aims to encourage art
appreciation at the elementary school level.
Volunteers commit to a training program during the fall and
then present a portfolio of images or “traveling museum” to students
throughout the winter and spring.
