Issues, Affairs & Programs
The Devon PTO
has representatives who participate the Tredyffrin/Easttown
School District Board Meetings, Diversity Committee and
the InterSchool Council. In addition, the Devon PTO is
represented on ARCH and BUILD, two parent-sponsored
organizations. In addition, the PTO supports healthy
lifestyle choices via the Mileage Club, Red Ribbon Week
(Anti-Drug awareness), and Turn It Off! Week. Community
service is provided through MLK Service Day, Love in
Action, and support for FLITE.
The PTO also
sponsors Fall and Spring sessions of After School Clubs. Various clubs
are available to students for 5 week sessions.
Beautification
Do you have a green thumb? We need you! If you have ever noticed the
planters filled with pretty flowers as you enter Devon or visited the
inner courtyard, you have seen what our Beautification Committee does.
The chair purchases the flowers and the committee members help plant and
maintain the flora at Devon.
Mileage Club
Mileage Club is a blast! In and effort to promote fitness, Devon
students have the opportunity to do laps of the Devon fields for a week
in the fall during recess to earn small tokens. Volunteers are needed
during shifts to help organize the kids and tally their laps. Lots of
fun!
National Nutrition Month
Help provide Devon students with ideas for healthy food choices during
National Nutrition Month. In the past, the Committee has provided
samples of tasty fruits and vegetables during lunch in the cafeteria and
also shared ideas for healthy snacks and recipes via the Devon Dispatch.
Red Ribbon Week
Work with Tami Noel, our Guidance Counselor, to distribute Red Ribbons
during the school's drug abuse awareness campaign.
The Green Team
The Devon community is committed to reducing our impact on the
environment and teaching our children the importance of taking care of
our planet. The Green Team implements recycling initiatives and offers
suggestions on reducing and reusing.
Library Volunteers
Volunteers work in the Devon Library during regular school hours to
assist Mr. Stever with checking books in and out, and restocking the
library shelves. Some volunteers make a year-long commitment to work one
45-minute shift per week, and others volunteer to fill in as needed.
Turn it Off! Week
Wouldn't we all like to see our kids doing something other than sitting
in front of the TV, computer or hand-held game? Well Turn It Off! Week
is the answer. The committee provides take home packets for all students
to give parents and children lots of ideas for activities that don't
require looking at a screen!
MLK Project
This is a service project run by parents at Devon to honor the memory of
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. All students and parents are encouraged to
participate. Recent projects have included doing a coat drive for
homeless people in Philadelphia, sending supplies for our troops serving
abroad, and collecting essentials for babies and children through
Cradles to Crayons. During last year's Cradles to Crayons project, all
Devon students had the opportunity to either color wrapping paper or
make a birthday card for a child served by Cradles to Crayons.
Love In Action
Devon is a very supportive community. Parents come together through Love
in Action to help Devon families struggling with a difficult situation
by preparing meals.
School Clubs
Twice a year, 1st-4th graders have an opportunity to participate in an
after-school club led by a Devon teacher! The clubs are held once a
week, usually for 5 weeks. The teachers chose the clubs offered and the
committee coordinates signups: ideal project for an organized person.
Building Understanding of Individuals with Learning Differences
(B.U.I.L.D.)
(B.U.I.L.D.) is a district-wide support group for parents. Monthly
meetings offer guest speakers and information sharing on topics of
special interest to parents of students with learning differences.
Inter-School Council
The primary purpose of the Inter-School Council (ISC) is to serve as an
interchange for ideas and information among PTOs and Steering Committees
in the T/E School District. In addition, areas of mutual interest
including the educational process, legislation, student behavior and
activities are discussed. The goal of sharing is to continue to improve
education for our children and to provide a forum for discussion and
possible resolution of areas of concern. Meetings are generally held
monthly September through May. A representative from each school is
present at all meetings, but parents are encouraged to attend these
informative gatherings.
ARCH
Area Residents Caring and Helping, Inc. is a community
coalition established in 1981 by parents in the Tredyffrin/Easttown
School District to assist, educate and support one another in dealing
with substance use and abuse by the young people in our community. ARCH
provides information and support for families and works closely with the
Tredyffrin/Easttown School District Administration to provide student
services and resources in the fight against substance abuse.
Diversity Committee
The TE School District's Diversity Committee includes parents, teachers,
administrators, students, School Board, and community members dedicated
to the fulfillment of District policies designed to make our school
community a place of increasing respect and support for all. The
committee is especially interested in new parent support services; a
rich, equitable, and inclusive curriculum for students; and the
maintenance of an appropriately diverse professional staff.
T&E Care
T&E Care is a local organization that supports the community in a myriad
of ways, including the annual school supply drive, school meal
assistance, coordinating furniture and clothing donations, etc.
Halloween Candy Drive
Did the kids bring home way too much candy on Halloween
night? Do you have leftover candy that wasn't given out? We have the
solution! We are collecting leftover Halloween candy to benefit Mr. Stever's favorite charity, the Jerusalem Community Food Pantry in
Schwenksville. The candy will be used for special treats for needy kids.
